Harvest Hosts has over 4000+ businesses, churches, restaurants, wineries, farms, etc. that allow you to stay on their personal or business property overnight with a few stipulations. First you are to make a donation which could come in the form of buying dinner if it is a restaurant or buying eggs if they have chickens on their property and things like that. Or if the host does not offer goods to purchase, you make a donation of a specified amount. Next, you are only allowed to stay 1 night and under no circumstances can you ask to stay longer. Lastly, you have to be self contained, meaning you need no outside resources like water or electricity. You don’t set up camp. You literally pull in and stay over night and leave the next day. It is a great way to get from point A to point B with minimal cost involved.
As I am writing this post, HarvestHosts is adding additional features to their membership. Extended stays, hooks ups for water and electric and other exciting benefits. Check it out at https://www.harvesthosts.com/
The first HarvestHosts we stayed at was a blueberry farm. We arrived in the afternoon and were the only campers there! It was pretty cool to have the whole farm to ourselves. Hostess was very warm and welcoming. There also was an old log cabin on the property as well.
The next morning we were greeted by our hostess. She showed us around the log cabin, which had been in her husband’s family for generations. She also told us about her gift shop where we found wonderful blueberry jams and jellies to . This was a great first HarvestHosts adventure.
