Our next trip would be a little longer and would involve boondocking, of sorts! Boondocking (if you don’t know) is when you camp on public land with no electric or water hookups. However, we decided instead to join a membership called HarvestHosts. Check out my post on Harvest Host for more info.
We headed out Nov. 16th, for a Thanksgiving adventure. Our first night was also our first Harvest Hosts stay, which took place on a blueberry farm in Alma, GA. Our small caravan was all that stayed that night. It was pretty cool to have the whole farm to ourselves. There was also an old log cabin on the property. The next morning we were greeted by our hostess. She showed us around the log cabin, which had been in her husbands family for generations. She also told us about her gift shop. Click on the link to find out more about it. Where we went before leaving town and found wonderful blueberry jams and jellies to take home with us. This was a great first HarvestHosts adventure. Since our stay at the blueberry farm they have become an Airbnb and have discontinued hosting for HH.
Next we stayed in the parking lot at Phillies on the Hill restaurant. Sounds kinda strange but it was a great stop for the night. We had tickets to see Matthew West, in concert, so we were only in the parking lot for the evening then off to another adventure the next day. Matthew West put on a great Christmas concert. If you have not see him, I suggest you check him out here.
Day three took us to a winery, vineyard. There’s a peace amongst the grapevines. We enjoyed a great evening and rested well. There was wine tastings lots of social time in their gathering place. Last we stayed in the parking lot of a brewery in Franklin, NC. We enjoyed all of the venues. The hosts were excellent and we knew HH would be part of future adventures. Pigeon Forge was our final destination for about 4 nights. Normally it takes part of a day to get to Tenn. from our home. Since we wanted to try out Harvest Host we took four days to get there.Upon returning from Tenn. we debated about our sleeping arrangements in our RV. I know, it’s a first world problem, right? But to not have a bed that didn’t require set up each night and taken down every morning could get old when on an extended adventure. More on this dilemma later….The holidays came and went. We went on another RVing adventure to Holmes Creek Camping and RV Resort in Vernon, FL. Wonderful place if you are ever traveling through the Panhandle of Florida. We took our granddaughter and went for a week. While in Vernon, unbeknownst to me, Robert was searching for an RV with that could solve our sleeping issue. Low and behold he found one that satisfied our wants. We went to see it and loved it. Sold our current rig and almost one year exactly we purchased this new to us RV with a beautiful bedroom in it.
